Welcome, San Diego Language & Culture Lovers!

The goal of this group is to foment any and all efforts being made in the San Diego/Tijuana region that encompass exposing the unique perspectives the rich Mixtec language/culture has to offer through making friends accross culutural boundaries and learning each others' language. It can serve as an extension and compliment to programs such as the Language/Cultural Exchange program "Familia Indígena Unida" in Linda Vista (structured English/Spanish classes for the Mixtec community in exchange for sharing of the Mixtec language and culture), meetings for Mixtec students, coordinate trips to Mixtec communities (such as the large community in Valle Verde in Tijuana), informal language/cultural exhcanges, etc. It is estimated that there are approximately 30,000 native Mixtec speakers in the SD County and Tijuana region (about 15-20 thousand in SD county alone) and the population is increasing . Meetups can vary in objective (planning meeting, language/cultural exchange, a Mixtec lesson, linguistic discusiion, etc.) to fit the agenda of anyone working within the area of Mixtec language/culture.
